“Luno” means “curves” in Latin and celebrates and elicits the subtle beauty of the curves created by gravitational force in the natural world. In keeping with the Rami series, Luno demonstrates the delicate tension and harmony between form and function. To ensure that the curves would only be created by gravitational force, a string was held at two points and allowed to hang in free form. IL Hoon then created and recorded multiple curvatures by placing the two points at different angles and then selected the most subtle curves to replicate with carbon fibre. This process of capturing the natural curves with the weaving method used in all the pieces in the Rami series artfully mimics the curves made possible by gravity. These curves gradually take on the form of a chair that is ethereal in appearance, but is structurally strong and durable. The result is another breathtaking display of nature’s form and function captured by a visionary who senses the potential harmony between technology, industry, and the natural world.
