Rami Bench Seoul

Limited edition of 20
Bench, Carbon fibre, W37cm x L200cm x H45cm, 2017

Hand weaving carbon fibre string into three-dimensional form, IL Hoon Roh mimics the harmony and strength found in nature. In Latin, the word Rami means “tree branch,” which is the inspiration behind this unique piece. From the moment a tree branch begins its life, it harnesses the delicate balance between form and function, expanding into a pattern that is not predetermined to reach its optimal design and structure. Replicating this technique, IL Hoon weaves the carbon fibre, a malleable substance delicate in its initial form, and guides it to its final shape, blending together the artist’s vision and the natural force of the carbon fibre as it hardens. The result of this unique technique for the Rami Bench Seoul is an oval shape that was part of a solo exhibition at Platform-L Contemporary Art Center in Seoul.

All the pieces in the Rami collection demonstrate the full potential of carbon fibre by creating a design that is several times stronger than steel yet weighs less than 5kg and can be lifted with a finger.
