In the Rami collection, IL Hoon Roh mimics the harmony and strength found in nature. In Latin, the word Rami means “tree branch,” which is the inspiration behind this unique series. From the moment a tree branch begins its life, it harnesses the delicate balance between form and function, expanding into a pattern that is not predetermined to reach its optimal design and structure. Replicating this technique, lL Hoon generates the geometries of the design, weaving a hand-woven carbon fiber string 1.2km (approximately 0.75 mile) long into a three-dimensional form and guides it to its final shape, blurring the lines between the artist’s vision and the natural force of the carbon fiber itself.
All the pieces in the Rami collection demonstrate the full potential of carbon fiber by creating a design that is several times stronger than steel yet weighs less than 1kg and can be lifted with a finger.
