Rami XII is the result of the artist’s 12th experiment with the Rami structure. Rami means “tree branch” in Latin, which is the inspiration behind this series.

As tree branches grow, they exhibit a delicate balance between form and function, and expand into a pattern that is not predetermined to reach their optimal design and structure. IL Hoon Roh mimics such harmony and strength found in nature by handweaving carbon fiber strings, a malleable and delicate substance in their initial forms, and guiding them to their final shape, blending together the artist’s vision and the natural forces exerted on the carbon fiber strings as they harden.

LED and optic fiber were added to illuminate the work as you walk through the pieces.

This installation was first revealed at the Cheongju Craft Biennale on October 2019 and was sponsored by Hyosung Advanced Materials, Samsung LED and Altair.
